DAY 5: I HOPE YOU DANCE

We were again greeted by Mom’s beautiful smile and hugs and kisses today. For those of you who don’t know, my Mom was headed up to Baltimore, MD this weekend to get Dad moved back to Minnesota (he was out there for work). As we get closer to finalizing plans to get Mom home, we are sending Dad up to Baltimore to get packed up and Court will follow tomorrow morning to load up Mom’s car. They will both be back here Monday. Auntie Joan comes in this afternoon and we are so thankful she is coming to see her sister! Joan is a Hand Therapist and used to work as an OT and we are so blessed we will have her here with us!

Mom did very well with the oatmeal again today and after a good breakfast I know Mom always wants to get cleaned up. As I mentioned yesterday, she took her first shower! I was able to help Mom take a shower today and we brought her shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrush/paste, etc. She did FANTASTIC (minus the trying to eat her deodorant part :o) and we even got her into her OWN clothes! She was all smiles and looks nice and COZY!

I then took off to Target to get a few things for Mom and some official Starbucks coffee! For those of you who know us Besch’s, we LOVE our good coffee. We’ve been living off of the dirt for the last few days and there is just nothing like a grande skinny vanilla late extra hot with no foam ;o). While driving between Target and Starbucks, the song I Hope You Dance by LeAnn Womack came on the radio. It was one of those ‘pull you out of the to do list and realize the reality of the situation' moments.

It's an old song I've heard a million times (the kind we usually make fun of Mom for still liking)...but WOW! What a moment! The song is all about a mother wanting the best for her daughters…exactly the way Mom raised Court and I. All I could think about was how she worked so hard to raise us our entire lives and always put our needs before her own. NOW – more then ever – I want to see HER DANCE. Mom, it’s your turn!

WATCH HERE:

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance

The lyrics both ate me up inside and also made me so thankful that our family has been given the opportunity to care for Mom’s every need. This entire situation has brought the four of us back to THIS moment of THIS day and ON our knees!  As painful as the process is, I am so thankful that God gave us a second chance with Mom.

Dad just left to head up to Baltimore and Auntie Joan is on her way here. We pray for God’s protection for Dad and Joan and as Courtney gets ready to travel tomorrow morning. We continue to pray for Mom’s brain to heal and to remember that placing God in the center of the entire situation is the only way to get through it!

Thank you again for all of your encouragement and support. We truly feel the Lord carrying our family right now.

Gordy, Courtney and Jessica

Where have you seen God’s grace in your life today?
